The dam Vranov is a very famous recreational area, so-called "Czech Adriatic". It is one of the warmest reservoirs in Czech Republic. The pier is located approximately 1,5 kilometre away from Vranov nad Dyji’s square. The transport is provided by bus from the square during summer season.
Bathing is possible on local beaches and on other places. On the beach there is a huge switchback with a swimming pool. The water-reservoir is suitable for windsurfing and other water sports; it is also a fishing area.
The reservoir has been built between 1930 and 1934. It is 765 ha large, 58 meters deep (max.) and the capacity of water is approx. 31, 5 millions m3. The pier is 59,9 meters high and the water has flooded 30 kilometres of the valley which had a similar appearance as the Dyje valley in the national park Podyji. The Vranovska water-reservoir is the biggest reservoir on the Dyje river.
